Collage Magic Artist Residency

Designed for collage artists, professional development sessions focus on artist practice: topics include Collage in Theory; Copyright & Appropriation; Developing Context; Collaboration; and Collage in Presentation. We will explore contemporary art that references magic, altar making, and ritual practice and take a walking tour of New Orleans and explore the city as an archive of magic. A visit to the Historic New Orleans Voodoo Museum will afford us the opportunity to consider how contemporary practitioners are engaged with magic traditions in the 21st century. Hosted by Kolaj Magazine.

Bibliomancy First Friday

During First Friday on August 4th between 5-7pm, Julia Arredondo will be conducting in-person bibliomancy sessions open to the public. Participants are invited to sit with Julia in the gallery, and discuss passages that are chosen randomly by the inquirer from a collection of Portland Public Library books. Bibliomancy sessions take around 10-15 minutes to complete. The books used during Julia’s live bibliomancy sessions will remain on-site in the gallery should visitors choose to conduct bibliomancy for themselves.

Temple Of was a two-person exhibition featuring Chad Kouri and Julia Arredondo at Roots & Culture in Chicago, IL. The exhibition was on view from April through June 2023.

The exhibition includes individual and collaborative works from Arredondo and Kouri that promote the idea of divine objects and experiences, including but not limited to in-person programming, performances, paintings, sculpture, instruments, sounds, smells, and more.
