What makes an object magical?
For the past few years, I've studied spiritual storefronts (botánicas, religious kiosks, spiritual gift shops) to better understand the relationship between retail and spirituality. Visual merchandising and altar building share similarities in creating space to invoke desire and wish fulfillment through object placement.
I am fascinated by the packaging and selling of magic; screen printed candles and mass-produced charms which are then sold to transform the lives of individuals. This body of work is an exersize in manufacturing magic. Some of these pieces were made locally to reflect my experience of Pensacola and the magic this town has bestowed upon me. Can you feel it?
